Ange Sandrine Reflects on Finding Her Community in College

July 23, 2015
I am so thankful for all of the amazing new opportunities that I have had this semester! In the first weeks of school, I was delighted to be nominated to become a Calculus I tutor. Being nominated was an honor in and of itself because it meant that my professor believed that I had mastered the material enough to be able to teach it to others. I am excited to say that I made it through the interview process and am now officially tutoring Calculus I! As a tutor, I am able to expand my personal knowledge about Calculus, give

Rina on Readjusting to Life after Studying Abroad

July 23, 2015
Since I returned from studying abroad last semester in Denmark, my schedule has been incredibly hectic! Readjusting to my school routine at Haverford College has been harder than I thought that it ever would have been, although I have been told that many students who study abroad have a difficult time transitioning back to “normal” life. Junior year has also brought its own set of challenges as I must learn to balance a heavy course workload and sending out internship applications. Bonnette on Being Open to New Experiences

July 23, 2015
Studying in a foreign country is a completely unique experience because I learn something new every single day. Last month I went skiing with other international students on a trip organized by Whitman’s intercultural office. The trip was so much fun—but not because I knew how to ski or that I even really enjoyed it. The best part was the excitement of trying something new and

Nadege on the Value of Hands-On Learning

July 23, 2015
This semester at Michigan State University (MSU) I had the amazing opportunity to receive a hands-on education working in my community! First, I spent time at a nearby nursing home where I was able to assist elderly people with3 daily activities like eating, showering, and dressing. For four hours every week, I would also volunteer at a local hospital and shadow nurses as they went on their rounds. I often would be able to help out with the finer details of hospital care by getting water or ice for bed-ridden or sick patients. Finally, I had the opportunity to tutor MSU athletes

Denyse and Sheilla Host Lecture Series on Rwandan Genocide

July 23, 2015
During this last Spring Semester, Sheilla and I organized series of three events leading to the commemoration of the Tutsi Genocide at Lehigh. With the help of the African Caribbean Culture Club (ACCC), Global Union and Leadership Lehigh, we were able to successfully execute all the three events. The first event was “Rwanda, Zambia and Botswana Culture Night” where we collaborated with friends from the respective countries to present about our countries history. This main purpose of this culture night was to prepare the audience for the next two events. The second event was the screening of the movie “Sometimes in
