Ange Sandrine Reflects on Finding Her Community in College
I am so thankful for all of the amazing new opportunities that I have had this semester! In the first weeks of school, I was delighted to be nominated to become a Calculus I tutor. Being nominated was an honor in and of itself because it meant that my professor believed that I had mastered the material enough to be able to teach it to others. I am excited to say that I made it through the interview process and am now officially tutoring Calculus I! As a tutor, I am able to expand my personal knowledge about Calculus, give back to my community by assisting those who need additional academic support, and attend tutor training sessions that are helping me to improve my teaching skills. In the short time since I have started being a Calculus tutor, there have been so many new experiences for which I am thankful.
Since moving to the United States, I miss speaking French with other people and using it to converse in my classes. However, being part of Muhlenberg College’s French Club has been the next best thing to speaking French every day! Once a week, I have the chance to speak French with the other club members. This month, the French Club took an amazing trip to visit the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. There, we had the chance to learn about the history of French art and see pieces by French artists like Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Between my new job as a Calculus tutor and the French Club, I am looking forward to the rest of the amazing opportunities that this semester has to offer!
