I spent my winter break in a country that resembles home in so many ways, but I still felt far away from home. After Christmas, a group of ten other Lafayette students, two faculty members and I flew to Madagascar for a service trip in Antananarivo. This trip was part of an organization that was started at Lafayette called Lafayette Initiative for Malagasy Education (LIME). This initiative strives to empower Malagasy students to apply to US colleges and universities. My group was the sixth to go to Madagascar to tutor and mentor the students in SAT and TOEFL at Lycee Andohalo. Descending |

I barely had time to process the fact that I was now a senior in college because we dove head-first into a heavy workload from Day 1. I have been able to learn and experience different cultures such as the Diwali Celebration, Thanksgiving and various brown bags related to culture. Cultural diversity is becoming a given for Lafayette students.Diwali celebration was a big celebration on campus for Indians. Diwali is the celebration of lights and the light overcoming the |
After finishing my finals in December, I flew to San Francisco to spend my first winter break with my mentors and to attend January’s OAD leadership seminar. Despite the overwhelming feeling of travelling alone and the size of the Dallas Airport, I knew that I was in for an amazing time and that this would be one of the best memories from my first year in college.Unfortunately, my plane was delayed for two hours and it was late at night when I finally arrived at the San Francisco airport. I was a little nervous that the late plane may have |
