SHE-CAN Scholars at the University of Portland

​Mey Srou: Starting college during a global pandemic was a big transition for me. Time flew, fall semester ended, and I successfully navigated my first semester at UP with pride. However, I want to express my great gratitude to the UP community and my SHE-CAN big sisters Rosie and Sahas for giving me such sympathetic support. I encountered many memorable challenges last semester. For instance, I 
Sahas Sok: Just like Rosie and Mey, my gratitude for UP is more than I can write in words. While people like to complain about how miserable their lives are, I reflect a lot on how wonderful my life is even during the pandemic. While walking to the Dollar Tree to buy kitchen utilities for our apartment, Rosie, Mey, and I were laughing so hard on just random topics, and we took a moment to reflect on our happiness and how the three of us bonded so quickly.

During my first week, I went hiking at the Pulgas Ridge Hike. It was a three mile hike. Although it was a bit exhausting to finish because it was my first time, it was definitely worth it.During my second week, I spent a whole week enjoying the Christmas celebrations. Aidy Reflects on Studying Abroad and COVID-19

Aidy Ung, a senior at Lafayette College reflects on her study abroad experience at the University College London and the silver linings of 2020.
Although 2020 was not quite what I had imagined it to be, the pandemic did not necessarily ruin my year. On New Year’s Day, I landed in London, where I embarked on my study abroad journey at University College London (UCL). On top of that adjustment, my first month in London also involved planning for the rest of the spring semester and applying for a summer internship. I was contacted for a phone screening and interviews with senior engineers. I was extremely excited when I found out I got an internship position with Langan Engineering and was really looking forward to my summer. I was very fortunate to have this opportunity in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am grateful to the SHE-CAN community for connecting me with BlueHub.BlueHub Capital Inc., or BlueHub, is a national mission-driven nonprofit organization located in Boston, MA.
With my position as a program research intern, my responsibilities included research, retrieving data and information, analyzing the data, and submitting the results to my supervisor. These results are used to support and construct the business plan of a program that BlueHub uses to 

Diane’s Unexpected Spring Semester

I love traveling and try to visit new places whenever I can. This past spring break, I got to visit Puerto Rico with my friends. I had always wanted to visit the Caribbean, and Puerto Rico was a good choice given my U.S. visa.
