Karla is from a family of three in Guatemala, consisting of her mother Everilda, a teacher, and her older brother Eduardo, a shoe salesman. A determined student, Karla and her mother sought out opportunities for her education, which led to her earning a scholarship at a school in Quetzaltenango. She completed her first year virtually and the second in person, graduating in 2023 with a high school diploma focused on medicine. That same year, she was recognized as a classroom leader and actively participated in cultural and sports activities.
Since 2013, Karla has consistently been elected as classroom president, organizing community-focused projects like tutoring, classroom decoration, and environmental clean-ups. Her leadership and personal experiences—including facing discrimination as an Indigenous woman—have shaped her passion for justice and inclusion. Karla aspires to support underserved children by offering free English and Spanish courses and promoting equality and respect for human rights in Guatemala. She believes in building a more inclusive society where diversity is valued as a strength.
