SHE-CAN Scholar: Mamuyan “Blessing” Jabateh

Mamuyan, from Voinjama in Lofa County, Liberia, grew up in a family of 15, including a subsistence farmer father, a mother who worked as a cleaner at Tellewoyan Memorial Hospital, a mechanic uncle, and an aunt who sold charcoal. She currently lives with her aunt and her aunt’s husband. Mamuyan attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School, where she earned a scholarship and consistently excelled academically, later graduating as Salutatorian and the first female to earn the highest WASSCE results at Seku Ibrahim Sheriff’s High School. She held leadership roles such as Student Council Speaker and News Presenter for the Voice of Lofa, where she developed strong public speaking, teamwork, and communication skills. Her passion for education and leadership is matched by her advocacy against female genital mutilation, shaped by personal experience.

Mamuyan is deeply committed to creating opportunities for girls to thrive in safe, supportive environments, with a long-term goal is to help build a stronger, healthier society that empowers women and uplifts communities.
