Mey Srou graduated with a Business Administration and Marketing degree from the University of Portland. Mey’s parents separated while she was young, so Mey was raised by her grandparents until she graduated from high school. She persevered and obtained an A on the National Exam despite experiencing financial difficulties. Due to her family’s financial circumstances, Mey was unable to enroll in college and had to wait for one year until she won a full scholarship at Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia and the Advanced Center for Empowerment that supported her living in the city. While fighting her best to overcome all challenges, Mey managed to work as an English teacher in a settlement, exposing her to the living conditions of many low-income Cambodians.
At UP, Mey is a First Generation Student Ambassador who serves as a mentor to UP’s new freshmen. Mey was also a Provost Initiative Undergraduate Researcher during the summer following her first-year in 2021. She did Economic and Marketing studies to determine how Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) models helped restaurants survive the pandemic. In the summer of 2022, Mey was an Operations Intern at BlueHub Capital, a mission-driven non-profit situated in Boston, Massachusetts. She was also a member of the impact team responsible for giving assistance to loan fund initiatives including data and infographic design. In summer of 2023, Mey was a Marketing and Communication Intern at Women Business Collaborative (WBC), running a social media marketing campaign for the annual summit, content planning and scheduling, and web content editing.
