Chartine Iraguha graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She is currently the Vehicle Integration Engineer at Luminar Technologies, a company that is developing self-driving cars operating in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Before graduating from Bucknell, Chartine completed a mechanical engineering internship with Zipline International Inc., which manufactures and operates small drones that deliver life-saving medical products, such as blood, to patients in remote areas. Chartine designed and built machines that performed mechanical and performance tests. In 2016, Chartine spent her summer break participating in two programs at Bucknell: the Institute for Leadership in Sustainable Technology (ILST) program and the Institute for Leadership in Technology & Management (ILTM) program. Through these programs, she gained experience as a consultant, working with peers to develop a proposal for a solar panel project on a commercial building in ILST and to evaluate the feasibility of a marketing plan for a client’s new line in ILTM.
Chartine was born in a refugee camp in Tanzania. Her family moved back to Rwanda when Chartine was four months old. She completed her secondary education at the Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology.
